Bhaluwang, 19th Shrawan
A comprehensive free heart screening program targeting over 13,000 students has begun in Rapti Rural Municipality, Dang. The initiative is jointly coordinated by the Rotary Club of Chandragiri and Rotary Club of Rapti, with technical support from the Nepal Heart Foundation (NHF) Central Office, NHF Lumbini Provincial Committee, and NHF Dang Branch.
According to the President of the Rotary Club of Rapti, the program aims to screen a total of 13,718 students from both community and governmental schools across the municipality for Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) and Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD).
Cardiologist Dr. Sumanta Banjade, involved in the screening, emphasized that children aged 3 to 15 are at risk of RHD due to poor eating habits and unhygienic living conditions, which can lead to repeated throat infections, a primary cause of Rheumatic Heart Disease.
The screening officially started on Monday, 19th Shrawan, from Adarsha Secondary School of Lalmatiya, Ward No. 2. On the first day, 1470 students from Nepal Rastriya Secondary School (Ward No. 1), Nawa Prativa Basic School (Pakhapani), and Adarsha Secondary School (Ward No. 2) were screened out of those two cases of heart disease were identified.
The screening team plans to cover all schools within the municipality in the coming days.
