Heart Screening of school children
On May 13, 14, and 16, 2025, Nepal Heart Foundation Central Office, its Branch in Rukum West and Adhoc Committees in the Rukum East and Salyan districts and Rotary club of Patan had jointly conducted heart screenings of the school children in the respective districts. A total of 9,029 students from 50 schools in those three districts were examined using stethoscopes (Rukum West – 2,844; Rukum East – 2,888 and Salyan – 3,297). The students were examined by Dr. Satya Narayan Suwal, Dr. Prem Raj Baidya, Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi, Dr. Abani Bhushan Upadhyaya, Dr. Denis Shrestha, Dr. Urmila Shakya, Dr. Ajya Adhikari an d Dr. Nishan Bhattrai. Students with suspected murmurs underwent echocardiography – 302 in Rukum West, 298 in Rukum East, and 401 in Salyan. Diagnoses confirmed of 15 RHD and 17 CHD cases in Rukum West(5 needing surgery), 4 RHD and 12 CHD in Rukum East (6 requiring surgery), and 2 RHD and 22 CHD in Salyan (4 requiring surgery). The cases were evaluated by a team of specialists including Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi, Dr. Urmila Shakya, Dr. Ajay Adhikari, and Dr. Nishan Bhattarai. Students needing further treatment were referred to Kathmandu. The event was assisted by Mr. Dipendra Purush Dhakal, Rotarians (Mr. Kedar Bhakta Shrestha, Mr. Kamal Psd. Nyachhon, Dr. Khadak Bisht, Ms. Maheshwori Bisht Rawal, Dr. Bishwa Bandhu Sharma and Mr. Ganesh Shrestha), Mr. Dev Gautam, participants from NHF branches, and supporting staffs from NHF, RN Anmol Maharjan, HA Mohan Man Shrestha, CMA Sharada Maharjan, RHD Educator Keshav Prasad Dhakal.
