Heart Disease Treatment Fund

The Nepal Heart Foundation (NHF) has long recognized that access to timely and effective treatment is one of the most critical challenges faced by individuals suffering from heart disease in Nepal—especially those from low-income and marginalized communities. To address this pressing issue, NHF has established a Heart Disease Treatment Fund, a dedicated endowment initiative aimed at ensuring that no individual is deprived of life-saving treatment due to financial constraints.

This fund has been initiated and managed by NHF’s Central Office in Lalitpur, in collaboration with its Kathmandu and Lalitpur branch offices. The fund has been made possible through the generous contributions of philanthropic individuals, corporate sponsors, social organizations, and well-wishers who believe in the cause of equitable healthcare. These contributions form a permanent endowment, with the interest generated annually being used exclusively to support heart patients who are in dire need of financial assistance for their treatment.

Over the last ten fiscal years (FY 2070 to FY 2080), the Heart Disease Treatment Fund has made a profound impact. More than 500 heart patients have directly benefited from the program. These patients were provided support to undergo critical diagnostic tests, medical treatments, surgical interventions such as valve replacements and bypass surgeries, and post-operative care in specialized cardiac hospitals.

Each year, the NHF family—comprising its central and branch offices—provides financial support totaling over NRs 2 million, demonstrating a sustained and growing commitment to helping the most vulnerable. The fund is carefully managed to ensure transparency, accountability, and maximum reach. Beneficiaries are selected through a needs-based assessment, often in coordination with partner hospitals and social workers who help identify deserving cases.

Beyond financial assistance, NHF also offers counseling and support services to patients and their families, helping them understand their condition, make informed decisions, and adhere to long-term care plans. In doing so, the foundation not only supports immediate medical needs but also contributes to long-term recovery and quality of life improvements.

The Heart Disease Treatment Fund stands as a beacon of hope for many who would otherwise be left without options. It reflects NHF’s core mission to make heart health care accessible, equitable, and inclusive, and it continues to inspire a culture of compassion and solidarity in the broader community.

Looking forward, NHF is committed to expanding this fund and inviting more donors and partners to join the cause. With increased collaboration and support, the foundation envisions a future where no heart patient in Nepal is left untreated because of financial hardship.
