End Rheumatic Heart Disease Fund (ERHDF)
An Initiative of Nepal heart foundation to End RHD in Nepal
END RHD Fund has been established to support the implementation of the END RHD Campaign, Nepal. This is a special non-expendable trust fund for undertaking RHD prevention activities and supporting needy RHD patients. The trust fund was initially promoted by Senior Cardiologist Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi. He firstly contributed NRs one million towards the fund as theseed money. The trust fund has crossed the amount Twenty Million Rupees by September 2025. More than 150 people have contributed to this noble cause. An expendable program fund has also been established to meet the necessary expenses.
Objectives
The key objectives of ERHDF are as follows:
- Undertake activities for early detection of RHD ( heart screening camps in schools and communities)
- Support the underserved patients with RHD for diagnosis, treatment and prevention
- Promote awareness rising activities onRHD.
- Promote research on RHD
- Encourage young generation to work on RHD prevention and control
Utilization of ERHDF
- ERHDF will be a non-expendable special fund to be deposited into time bound fixed deposit bank account
- Interest accrued from ERHDF fixed account will be deposited into a saving account (RHD program fund) for financing the expenses incurred for RHD related activities to meet its objectives. 75% of the interest amount will be used in such activities. Contributions made towards the expendable program fund are also deposited into the saving account.
- 10% of the interest will be utilized for expansion of the trust fund itself.
- Administrative expenses against the operation of ERHDF have been limited to 15 % of total interest accrued from ERHDF fixed account.
- The interest accrued will also be used for encouraging young generation by awarding and recognizing the contribution towards RHD prevention. Annually one individual will be awarded with an amount decided by the NHF executive committee.
Institutional and Operational Arrangement
- NHF has set up a New Committee in March, 2024 for the operation of ERHDF as follows:
1. Dr. Prakash Raj Regmi (National Program Director, NHF) Coordinator
2. Dr. Prem Raj Baidya (Vice President of NHF) Member
3. Mr.UttamlalShrestha (Treasurer of NHF ) Member
- NHF Operation Committee will decide and assign on the RHD related activities and select the nominee for annual ward,
- ERHDF non-expendable fund main bank account and expendable saving bank account, as specified above, will be operated jointly by the president or general secretary and Treasurer or Joint Treasurer of NHF. ( Signatories are any two)
- ERHDF Operation Committee will work through the Annual Work Plan
- NHF will maintain separate accounts of the ERHDF and prepare annual report of the same
- The Operation Committee will maintain necessary fiscal accountability and transparency on the operation of ERHDF.
